When I'm grooving on a particularly good song and get an alert sound, iTunes quiets the volume of the song so I can hear the alert.

THIS DRIVES ME CRAZY!!

I can hear the F*^$ING sound without the need for you to change the volume.

What's worse .. you can't set the volume back to what it was .. you just have to wait for iTunes (or is it OS X?) to put the volume back (what seems like 1 minute later).

Is there an option to change this? I know the control panel has a slider for alert sound .. that's not what I want. I just want the damn thing not to mess with my main volume when I hear an alert.

Computers are tools. They are designed to serve our needs -- to do what we ask.

I don't mind if OS X tries to do what it thinks is best (most of the time, it's correct and I appreciate it).

As in this case, I don't mind if it thinks I can't hear the alert (although it's not correct), and decides to lower my music volume.

However, I do mind that it doesn't allow me to tell it when it's wrong and correct it.
