In iOS 5, Apple added an annoying limit that cancels your file transfer from one app to another in case of the transfer lasting more than 1 minute.

It takes about 1 minute to copy/transfer about 300-350MB, so that means that you cannot transfer files bigger than 350MB between iOS apps anymore because of the timeout.

I believe this severely damages the working possibilities of the iOS devices.

Example:
As a film student, I often download large files (~1gb) of video material with Downloads HD on my iPad and then want to open the file in a video player app. Because of this limit I am unable to do so.

This is surely just one of many examples of how having a 350mb limit on files you can move between apps restricts the user.

I already wrote to Apple about this issue and I hope you will too, so together we make iOS a more functional operating system.

Here is the link where you can suggest this change to :apple:

I'd be surprised if there was a fixed time limit... Here's some things you could try if you haven't already:

  • Free up some more space on your iPad by deleting apps/media
  • Restart your iPad before attempting a large transfer to free up memory.

Hope things work out for you,

Adam
