I noticed today that my 2018 MacBook Pro will turn on when any key is pressed, or if the trackpad was clicked.
I thought this was a glitch of some sort, but it is confirmed in an Apple support document:
In essence, this means the trackpad is never off. Which sort of makes it feel like the Mac is never off. It also helps to reinforce the illusion that the trackpad is a real moving object when in fact it is a solid state slab of glass.

Additionally, MacBook Pro (2018) turns on when you press any key on the keyboard or press the trackpad.
- Open the lid of your Mac, even if it's not connected to power.
- Connect your Mac to a power adapter while its lid is open3.
