i have a mac book about 4 months old and i recently been getting this error while on the internet.
the application safari quit unexpectedly
happens about 3 times a day.

any ideas?

Yeah, Safari sucks right now. It's constantly quitting on me. Just switch to FireFox until Apple issues a good update.

What site?

It's probably Flash causing it.

Even if that's true it's still an issue with Safari. I haven't had a browser die on me so much in forever. I switched to Firefox today, since I'm fed up with it.

I've had the issue in FF as well, although not as often. I think it is an Adobe/OS X issue, not necessarily a specific browser.

It is specific to the browser as it's an issue with how the browser handles dead/broken/borked flash content. And it might not even be a flash issue, I've had Safari die on me twice in the past week just on the Top Sites page.
