I would be changing from a Logitech which has dedicated keyboard actions; such as video playback controls, audio controls, Home Button, search, power off etc. Then there is the great pencil holder/storage and flap to hold the keyboard and iPad firmly closed during transit.
I so much desire the built in trackpad but not at the expense of losing what I have on the Logitech.

Yes no function keys is a bummer. Especially for simple things like the Esc key, adjust screen brightness and volume

Most of the reviews seem to focus on desktop use, which is the thing I do least with my iPad. What’s it like on the sofa or when sitting up in bed, especially compared to the standard apple keyboard case?

I‘m interested in the new magic keyboard, but have thus far held back as I think the primary use case for it is when sitting at a desk.

(and apologies for going off topic)

I think unless you're looking for a laptop form factor, there's better options out there. But if you're wanting the portability and convenience of a laptop form factor (single device with keyboard & trackpad), it seems to be the best one out there.

If you're mainly using it at a desk, I'd probably get a decent stand, keyboard and trackpad instead.

Got mine this morning and I have been putting it to good use. I love just about everything about it. The lack of a function row has me wanting one. A few times I have gone to tap one for volume or play/pause.

I absolutely love the screen position. It’s elevated closer to eye level and it’s closer to you when typing compared to a traditional laptop.

The typing experience. It's better than my 2018 MacBook Pro with the so called improved butterfly switch. Enough said.

Absolutely love the Magic keyboard. The typing is the best since I owned a Macbook air in 2013 and trackpad is excellent. Don’t find the weight an issue, and love how easy it is to remove the ipad and put it back again. Was a huge fan of the Ipad Pro before this and now I think it has gone up in how much I love it. I use the 12.9 Magic Keyboard with 2018 IPP 12.9 inch, and it is a great device to own. Still as fast as the day I bought it and a real joy to use in a variety of settings. The only downside is I wish they would introduce keyboard shortcuts for volume, screen and keyboard brightness. Other than that 10/10.

Is that something just for Apple keyboards as it doesn’t work with my Logitech Slim Folio keyboard.
That I can't tell you. I can tell you that if you're, for example, typing a URL into the Safari URL field and change your mind, command-period will exit you from the field. Works similarly in other apps on both Mac and iOS. Can't say it works on every app, nor do I know if it is supported or not on 3rd party keyboards.

After using the Brydge pro on my 11” since June, I do miss the function row. However, I gladly trade the function row for these great keys and the trackpad. I think the Brydge pro will hold up better over time, but damn, this Magic Keyboard is a delight.

I also love how easy it is to remove/install the iPad into the Keyboard. The Brydge was such a pain to get lined up correctly, then have to turn off, I ended up leaving the iPad in the Brydge 98% of the time.

Now that the iPad just slaps on/lifts off of the magnets, I am finding myself using the iPad without the keyboard in more scenarios where I just want to hold and read from the iPad. I‘m enjoying the iPad so much more now.

I love it

I love the Magic Keybaord, but I just want to talk about the typing experience so many are raving about.

The typing experience is not the same as using a 16” MacBook Pro or the new MacBook Air.
Whilst they all have the same scissor switch mechanism, the experience of typing on the Magic keyboard is much ‘springier’ and there Is a looser feeling to the keys when typing overall. This is presumably is due to the fact that the Magic Keyboard has a very thin base underneath the keys, whereas the MacBook Pro has a much more hefty solid base under the keys, which I suppose dulls and cushions the sound more.

I notice when using the Magic Keyboard on the lap that the ‘springier’, more hollow sound / feeling is heightened, compared to when using it on a solid surface like a table or desk.

Don’t get me wrong, I think its great for a tablet keyboard, but it doesn’t compare to new keyboards on the 16” Macbook Pro or the new Air.

I’m OCD when it comes to keeping the screen clean. Before the keyboard I was cleaning the screen about 5 times a day and would feel compelled to give it a quick wipe any time I see a fingerprint. Now I barely touch the screen, so for me that is the best thing about it. Also, the trackpad is amazing.

MK + 12.9“ combo reminds of everything I loved about the 12” PowerBook which IMO was one of the best notebooks Apple has ever made.

Just got mine. Has totally made my 2018 iPad new again. I hated the squishy keyboard in the folio. Sure it’s a bit more heavy, but it was already heavy. And while I though I would hate the screen being close, it’s great for easily reaching out to tap things. Now I just need Microsoft to update Word to better support the trackpad.

If you like not touching screens you’ll LOVE: laptops.

It’s sexy? I mean this thing looks sick as hell. I never had the bridge one so I cant speak to that but I just love being able to move around the iPad without hitting the screen. for me this is my secondary system for work related tasks when I want to be more mobile and not in my office and media consumption etc. its kind of pricy but I do think it’s worth it.
