I was just messing about and noticed that if you change to an advanced password entry to get access to your ipad, you get a rather nice looking Black Keyboard come up on screen to type your password in.

I don't suppose (without jail-braking) you can select to have this Black Keyboard all the time can you?

Tried it, definitely like the black keyboard better. We should have an option for it. Oh, wait, it's Apple... ;)

wow, that is pretty nice looking. Would be a cool "back lit" feature for low light typing. Keep the screen dim so you don't blind yourself, use the black keyboard but keep the letters/numbers/symbols at near full brightness.

haha kind of strange that it has the little home key lips on the F and J, as if you could feel them

You could enable the "toggle white on black" option for the "triple-click home" feature in the General/Accessibility configuration.
That way, when you triple-click the home button, all colours are reversed and the keyboard is black.
Not quite the same as the password entry keyboard, but close.

I would be happy if the keyboard matched my MacBook Pro. Something like this:

Had no idea this could be done. Kinda cool
