Hi anyone solved the mystery of what the "brick” refers to? My theory is it just a codename for the date of todays launch…. 25 years ago today the first commercial cellular call was made from a Motorola DynaTAC handset, the handset which we now know as the "Brick” ...coincidence?

Hi anyone solved the mystery of what the "brick” refers to?

Judging by comments on MacRumors:
Apparently "The Brick"™ was going to single-handedly save the US economy by Apple, Inc manufacturing dirt-cheap MacBooks Pro and not-so-pro in Steve Jobs' ultra-secret manufacturing "facility" somewhere in the US of A…

This manufacturing process would then enable Apple to introduce massive price-drops, since against all common sense manufacturing in USA would be far more economical than assembling in China. Of course since these MacBooks were now being cooked "at home" the finish and quality would be awesome, since as every patriot knows team USA, USA, USA out-performs all competition. Even though they would probably have been assembled by under-paid Mexican immigrants. (Hmmm. I guess that's where the price drop came in…)

Alas for the US economy these rumours have since been scotched with the appearance of the "Assembled in China" silkscreening on leaked images of the new MacBook battery.

Oh, the frenzy and self-delusion.
