The Bureau: XCOM Declassified, a third-person shooter slightly similar to the popular Mac and iOS compatible title XCOM: Enemy Unknown, has launched for the Mac.

thebureau.jpeg
Originally released for gaming consoles in August, The Bureau: XCOM Declassified is set in late 1962 at the height of the Cold War as players take controller of special agent William Carter and his two squad members to defend humanity. The title's gameplay focuses on a mix of shooting and squad-based tactics, as Carter and his personnel can use special abilities in battle against various types of alien enemies.
The year is 1962. JFK is President and the Cold War has the nation gripped by fear - but a far more powerful and insidious enemy than communism is threatening America. Known only to a select few, a top-secret government unit called The Bureau begins investigating and concealing a series of mysterious attacks by an otherworldly enemy. As special agent William Carter, call the shots, pull the trigger and lead your squad in a gripping third-person tactical shooter set within a high-stakes, covert war to defend humanity. The Bureau's mission is clear - survive, adapt and overcome the enemy threat to protect the citizens from the truth.

The Bureau: XCOM Declassified
can be downloaded for $34.99 from the Mac App Store. [Direct Link]

Make sure to check required components. My 2009 iMac doesn't have the minimum graphics card to play this game, not surprisingly.

Another X-Com release that completely ignores what X-Com fans have been requesting for over a decade now. People want a new X-Com that focuses on the turn-by-turn based strategy like the original X-Com had back in the 90's. thank goodness Firaxis Games listened and responded with "Enemy Unknown".

As you said, Enemy Unknown has already been released - isn't that the X-Com game that fans wanted? Enemy Unknown is still pretty new.

Enemy Unknown is a much better game

but it is way too easy, only the last battle against the telekinetic enemies is tricky

i was a bit frustrated considering the price

Still not steam play. I don't get why this keeps happening...I'm not buying games twice to play on 2 platforms.

Because the mac developers/porters needs to get paid. Most gamed released for Mac isn't developed by the same company that made the Windows version. So they need to track the income basically.

I'm super hoping The Bureau will see an iOS release, though I don't know much about the gameplay or whether it could survive the port.

I had a BLAST playing XCOM:EU on iOS and look forward to the EW expansion {::fingers crossed::}. Generally, I found the first third or half of the game to be a very satisfying challenge while the remainder quickly became too easy.

[[SPOILER ALERT]]
The last fight turned out to be a snap... if you kill the center Ethereal they all die.

If you liked enemy unknown, try out the enemy within expansion. Ive had a blast creating a super stacked team.

Yeah!

Yeah! The nerve of some companies, trying new things instead of rehashing old safe formulas.

Why do you want to play on 2 platforms?

Because I have both PC's and Mac. I can game on my work MacBook. But in order to quickly play a game with Boot Camp I have to restart my system. I prefer to be able to just switch over to a game when I get a little break. I currently have Baldur's Gate running in the background.

Sorry, still confused. i couldn't agree more with what you say, but I still can't see why you need to run a game on PC and Mac. Why not just one or the other?

I'm guessing the poster bought it for PC when released, and now would prefer to play it on the Mac. Also, people have more than one computer, you know...gaming PC for home, MBP for on the go.

Except there is nothing new about this game. It's just a mediocre cover shooter in the Xcom setting. If anything, this game is a lot more "safe" than enemy unknown, because turn-based strategy is much more niche than shooters.

That's possible with Steam, which is why you're seeing porting houses like Feral and Aspyr enable SteamPlay on as many of their titles as they can. If you buy a SteamPlay title Steam tracks your initial platform usage for the first week or month and the developers get paid accordingly.

Agreed. This XCOM is pure garbage.

Trying new things is fine. Just don't call it XCOM. It'd be like making a turn based strategy called Quake.

Like I said, I have both. Why should I have to choose a platform when I have both platforms and paid for the game?

Because you bought the game for PC, that's why. The Mac Version is a "different" individually programmed version of the game. Work for the developers that someone should reward.

You can't expect to play Fifa 14 on PS3 when you just bought it for the Xbox, either.

I know what you mean. But I guess you understand my point, too.

Maybe, in the future, this will change and both versions will be available for you when you buy a game. EA did this with the Sims, right? Both versions on a disc.

Talking about the future... Mac will rule, PC will die. So no worries anymore anyway... :p

hello .
New iMac user .
Is this game playable for iMac late 2013 2.7ghz 8gb with intel iris pro 5200 ?
Thank you

I have heard this game is pretty terrible. I dunno if that's just XCOM fans complaining because it was called XCOM and isn't turn-based, or if it's actually bad. Still, the reviews were enough that I didn't bother getting this for PC. I probably won't get this on Mac either. Always nice to see a port, though.

XCOM: Enemy Unknown was fantastic though. My favorite game of 2012. I haven't yet had the time to really sit down and play Enemy Within, but it looks great and I'm looking forward to it. It's been sitting installed for a while now. Maybe this weekend...
