With iOS 6, the status bar is now coloured the same colour as the title bar of the app.

Am I the only one to find it look really ugly? It looks super cheap.

I'm a big fan of the all black status bar. Especially on the black iPhone 5. It makes the status bar look like an integrated part of the device, and not a part of the actual screen. Would be nice to have this throughout the UI (except when running full screen apps).

when does this happen? Mine's always black.

I just updated to ios6 and this was the very first thing I noticed and I can't stand the blue. There should be an appearance option in settings where we could change it.

How does it stand out?

It's so ugly. Why make the status bar in focus? Why not make it black so it looks like an integrated part of the phone - not the display.

But it is part of the display. It makes more sense for it to blend in with the app doesn't it?

At first, I thought it didn't look either because I was so used to that grey/black bar that was always there. Now I really like it. Makes the OS feel more 'playful' and not so serious looking.

I'd argue that the menubar is part of the phone, not the app. Apps don't utilize the menubar. It is completely separate and part of the core OS. Users do not interact with the menubar, so why give it the same colour as the app?

I see your point but I think Apple are trying to have the App as the focus and by changing the colour of the bar is consistent with the app.

I agree completely, that's why the first tweak I install when I jailbreak is Blackout to keep the statusbar black at all times. I don't like it changing around. It would be one thing if the apps could actually interact with the statusbar but they can't so it should just stay black. Imagine if Apple had taken it one step further and with the iPhone 5 made all of the black space around the app the same color as the statusbar. That would be one ugly mess, and it's not too much different than what they currently do.

It's funny the only time I've noticed the color bars is when the phone is trying to tell me something like return to call or return to navigation, which I quite appreciate

Thanks for the clarification...but the settings page was the only time I was able to bring it up. None of the common apps I tried (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.) showed anything other than black.
