Let's recap the current state of the lock screen on iOS - please correct if wrong:

  • Portrait mode
    • Classic screen
      • Access it from everywhere the way we have been used to for a few iOS versions now
  • Landscape mode
    • Classic screen
      • Open an app supporting landscape mode and swipe down
      • If you're on the home screen, forget it
    • Standby mode
      • A prettier version of the classic screen
      • Notifications content cannot be directly displayed
      • Face Id cannot be used to see the notifications content
      • Inexplicably, you're stuck with all the widget pages the widget pages cannot get rid of
Overall the landscape lock screen just looks like a good-intentioned, but ultimately failed experiment.

Anyone else feeling this way and having suggestions to cope with this?

Anyone against minding to explain why?
