The Daily - sound issue

When I launch The Daily, the app turns my sound up (from mute) and makes the intro noise. I use the lock button to lock the screen, not sound, if that even has anything to do with it.
The sound issue is rather annoying.

I have deleted and re-installed the app, and also sent them feedback.

Does this happen to anybody else?
Is there a way to not wake everybody in the house up if I want to open The Daily, daily?

This might be one of the sounds controlled by Ringers and Alerts. Go to Settings, General, and turn down the volume in Sounds.

I don't think you can.

Their bigger problem is content though.

Ringers and Alerts is at zero, and all of the sound options are off.
