First off I just wanted to say I'm glad to be at these forums, it's been too long since I've graced the pages of any online discussion boards and I'm ready to get back into the swing of things here and at other mac sites.

If the username doesn't already give it away, I'm Tyler Roehmholdt, your typical college student interested in one of the most expensive hobbies around besides stadium building. I currently have a G3 iBook and a copy of the Peachpit Press "Apple Pro Training Series: Final Cut Pro 4" so I'm a bit lacking in hardware and software. My university does though have a media lab with FCP4 so I'm diligently training myself on that until I can afford a G5 system and a copy of FCP4.

I guess my first question on these boards to ask is, as a college student, is it worth it to go and spend the $150 to get Apple Pro Certified in FCP4? This is merely a hobby for me currently but after I graduate I would like to attend a film school or at least a number of classes then find work in a production/post-production studio. Also, I have the opportunity to work with DVD Studio Pro 2 and Logic Pro, both which have certifications as well. Just how viable/selling/wanted in film school would I be if I possessed all three pro certifications?

Hopefully someone out there will have some advice, if not, let's turn this into a good discussion topic:

How does the digital lifestyle effect you? Is it just a hobby of yours or do your bills depend on the zoom of a camera and the click of a mouse?
