Have a look at this amazing piece of kit - The Phone Rebel Gen-2 Beta 1.

It hugs the phone so tight, provides a near-naked grip & has front/back lay on table design...

Everything my current case does, but it’s even thinner around the corners.

If you’re not looking for ultimate protection, this is the ultimate design imo...

I watch a lot of his videos and I think his cases look awful. No real distinguishing features and the open sides.... nah. I see the amount of complaints around here for the tiny bit of exposed phone on Apple's cases.

I agree and disagree. I used an Incipio feather for my old iPhone 6 Plus and it had open button cutouts and I remember how premium it made using the phone feel since you're using the actual buttons and feeling the metal. Thin exposed sides yet still offering drop protection might be a very interesting combo because of the feeling of touching the metal on your iPhone is there + drop protection makes it very appealing to a lot of people

I agree on looks though--I feel like if he cleaned up the look of it and made it more sleek it would be a winner

Well, I did mention it’s for those not looking for maximum protection.

This is essentially a scratch-resistant case, for the back, front, top & bottom edges.

I’ve had my X’s sides exposed for nearly 2 years & it’s still as good as new.

The thing about having sides exposed is that the whole grip is improved, since the device isn’t as difficult to hold, & hence reducing the chance of droppage.

Check out the current Rebel case of theirs & you’ll see how sleek these ones are in comparison. I’m not sure how much better they could be designed - they’re so thin & match the rounded curvature of the iPhone itself?

Oh I don’t think they’re ugly or non sleek—I just wish he didn’t highlight the camera area with a border. IMO, it would look more sleek with that taken out and it all being one continuous look.

He will include clear skin for the unprotected areas, so at least they don't get scratches.

But I'm no fan of his cases either. I think the shape is too weird, you will not be holding a perfect rectangle but a rectangle with thick corners and thin sides. That just sounds super weird to me and uncomfortable.

It’s actually not uncomfortable - your hand’s grip is in between the corners & the corners then stop the phone from slipping out. That, plus how you can still wrap your hand around the back/sides as if it were a naked phone further reduce the chances of droppage, which makes you worry less about scratching the exposed sides. It’s a very clever design.

Here’s how I grip a similar case with more prominent corners...

& here’s a comparison of the grip with the Apple Silicon case. It shows the shortened reach I have with my thumb, even if the Silicon case isn’t thick, it still hampers reach across the screen...

Can you please tell me where you got that case (or where I can find something similar)? I think I might be interested in a case like this.

Can't wait for the rebel case to start shipping. Been waiting on it forever. I love the idea of this case. A lot of the iPhone (caseless) feels great in hand as far as size goes but once you put a case on, much less a protective one, they feel huge.

This idea makes perfect sense to me and should maintain the smaller feel of the iPhone caseless.

I ordered a rebel case for my Xr. Shopping at the end of May (i hope)

Hmm, that case is hardly special. Plenty of similarly tight cases from China on the cheap. I personally don't like cases that are too tight. It's hard to remove when needed, and the tight space can allow dust/sand to really wreck havoc if you're not cleaning it often (and with the tight grip, you might get lazy removing it and cleaning it on a regular basis).

Imo for those looking for a really minimalist "case," best bet is to just get a skin.

Feel free to post photos in here. Hope it works out for ya!

I get that. I can only go off my current similar case to the Rebel, which has corners that easily detach from the phone, thanks to the thin backing which has some give & bends slightly, allowing the corners to slip off.
Hoping this one’s similar.

I purchased a frameless case. I used it for a few days but wound up taking it off because the one I got added a lot of weight to the phone. I was shocked since there doesn't seem to be a lot to the case. My guess is that the extra weight must have something to do with how rigid and sturdy to case is. Also, the case added thickness to the back of the case similar to a wallet/card case. I ordered a Caudabe Lucid Clear, so I want to try that out. If I don't like it, I might go back to using the frameless case because I really like everything else about the case.

🤔 Being so heavy/thick defeats the purpose of this style of case. There may be other lighter options of frameless cases out there for you, until the Rebel 2’s released?

Thinking that the frameless case is heavy might have been a mistake on my part. Since the case has the "weight" at the corners, when I held my phone with one hand, it felt like it was going to tip over, making it seem like the case was heavy. Basically, it was tricking my brain into thinking the phone was heavy. I'm not sure if I'm describing it correctly, but that is my theory.

Nah that’s ok.

Maybe you were trying to say it didn’t feel balanced? If so, then that’s a poor design, as the corners shouldn’t have so much heft to them, in a minimalist style case.
