The "f" buttons

sometimes (very rarely, but it does occur) I need to press the F1 button or F8 or another "f" button. However, as we all know, apple has placed really nice (I really like them) shortcuts for widgets, expose, volume, play/pause etc. So when I press that button (say F8) the music starts playing.

So how do I "press it right". Do I need to press another button with it. Or is it preferences.

Press Fn and the F key. Or you can go into System Preferences --> Keyboard and Mouse and tick "Use all F1.. as standard keys".

in the bottom left, there's a key with 'fn' press that at the same time et voila; you have the original f1 etc..
