Proves that Apple made the iPhone even better than ever, and therefore is the "real upgrade" that some of you are denying is not an upgrade.

I plan to stick with the 3G. I don't see that much of a difference (speed yes), but outside of that it doesn't offer me much more than what I have. If I have a camera to take pictures, the compass would only come in handy if I were lost at sea, video is meh. I'm not eligible for an upgrade till December, which works out, cause at that point I mine as well wait for the 4G in 2010 and listen to all the 3G S users bitch on how they're entitled to the new iPhone at the discounted rate as well.

Most places don't even have 3G and your worried about 4G..

LOL! This is just retarded. Are people really so desperate that this passes as "discussion"? :-D

I think they meant "4th generation" iPhone. Not 4G.

I agree with BoxerGT2.5, though. I'll be eligible to get the 3G S for $199 in December, but I'll keep my cash and pony it up 6 months later to get the 4th gen iPhone this time next year.

and at least have the decency to say "some" 3g owners are whining. i'm a 3g owner and i think the 3gs is a very good phone.

I'm a 3G owner, and I'm not happy that many of the features I'm interested in:
- Battery %age
- Voice Control
- Accessibility features

Are software changes that the iPhone 3G could easily handle. I would upgrade to the 3GS if it wasn't prohibitively expensive, but considering that my phone is capable of running these features and Apple simply won't allow it in software and you'll see why I'm not happy.

Yeah, I was hoping that 3.0 would give me everything I wanted, but looks like I'll finally have to give in and jailbreak. The things I REALLY wanted were Voice Control, Cut/Copy/Paste, and some way of organizing my applications.

Im in the same boat, and totally agree - the 2010 one for me is worth the wait, even though im not 100% happy about having the same phone for another 12 months, its a better option that to be stuck with the 3GS for 18/24 months.

I think I'm going to wait for the 2010 version as well. I'm not elligible to upgrade until December and I'm really pretty satisfied with my 3G. I think the 3.0 update will do a good job of holding me over until the next version. I would really like to see the front facing camera and iChat. That would be most excellent.

I am happy with my 3G. I got it the day it came out and just had it replaced under warranty 2 weekes ago from a hardware failure so now I have another year of life for my phone. I too am going to wait for the 2010 version. The only deal breaker would be if apps stop supporting the no 3Gs iPhones...
