Hey, I'm currently runnung the unibody 17'' at 2.93ghz and 8GB Ram.

However I was curious when do you think we'll have quad/ octo in the MBP and 16-32GB Ram?

Is it more like 1-2 years or much longer?

I think a quad is a possibility with the Nehalem processors but I wonder about the actual viability of it. The heat/energy usage must be low enough for it to make sense.

I don't see an octo going into a laptop ever or for a very long, long time.

The only laptops using those level processors at the moment seem to be the huge, bulky gaming laptops that cost way more than even your 17" MBP. So I'd say 5 years until we see quad as a standard option.

I would guess we will see a Quad/Octa Core iPhone and iTablet BEFORE we see them in the MBP. It could be we see them in the Spring 2010, at least in the highest end MBPs like the 17." I hope so but cooling and power management are more important to Apple before a many core CPU hits the MBPs.
