I couldn't find a full discussion on it - but is iP8 and iOS 11 going to bring about the death of Reachability? It's a frequently used feature of mine. Granted I use it on my Plus, so the shrink in form factor may alleviate my need for it, but it would be a shame to see it dropped. Unless the new home button is force activated, can't really see how the double tap can be kept - because I don't see them prioritising Reachability over the App Switcher.

iP6/7 (not Plus) users, do you find you need to use it on the smaller model?

That’s an interesting point you bring up. I know many enjoy or need the reachability features, like yourself; however, I also know people would like to se it implemented in different ways. The fact that the system hasn’t evolved much since its introduction could be very telling.

I’m currently running a 7. I have smaller hands, but luckily don’t have a need for the feature. That being said, I’d still like it to remain for those who need it.

It's interesting - I have huge hands, so don't actually need the feature for the 7 Plus as I can use it one-handed no problem. I just find I use it a lot when I'm not holding it in a "traditional" way - if I'm laying down, if I'm reaching out to use it on another desk, if I'm trying to stealth use it in my pocket, if I just couldn't be bothered moving my hand up slightly... lol.

You're definitely right though, it'd be good to see them implement it in some way, even if it's not the original double tap. I just wonder whether the smaller unit will even need it.

Haha I totally get the laziness with reaching out sometimes, it can be quite taxing!

I’ve seen various jailbreak tweaks from other users that shrink the screen from top left to bottom right. Meaning, it essentially shrinks the screen and brings it towards your thumb (like minimizing a window). That seems useful. Not sure if the smaller one will need it though.

I had the iPhone 7+ and currently the Galaxy S8 which is slightly bigger than what the iPhone 8 is going to be. Unless you have really small hands then you won't ever use reachability on the iPhone 8. I never would need it on the S8 and that one is fine for one handed usage. The iPhone 7+ not so much though.
