I was looking at www.apple.com/macosx/adobe today at the new CS suite, and I noticed the G5 was now referenced everywhere as 'the G5 Processor' whereas before it was just G5. Even the link that WAS apple.com/g5 is now apple.com/g5processor

I think this is because the Pentium etc is always marketed as the "intel pentium 4 processor" and maybe switchers didn't realise that the G5 is the processor - and just a model number.

What are your thoughts on this?

Interesting. So to create a "brand" for the processor as distinct from the box. Apple wouldn't need to do this, ... unless maybe they're going to license to IBM?

TM

I would wager that it has something to do with protecting their trademark. G5 can't become a generic term without the risk of losing the G5 trademark. So, Apple has to be careful to use "G5 processor" or "G5 personal computer". Aspirin and Kleenex both lost their TMs in this way.
