my 5 got the message with my morphie juice pack then when I got the 5s it too had that though they both charge. I also got it on my 5 when I had lint in the port. never got that before it just would not charge if the plug was not in right. well here the really fun one I have a usb extension cord in the bedroom as the iphone cable is too short. I bought one for my wife and guess what I get the unsupported device message. but this time it won't charge. though when it pops up it is showing it is charging.
I guess the cable could be bad but I doubt it.
 
Morphie battery packs are MFI (made for iDevice) supported so they should not give you this error. The error I believe is more to let the user know that it was not designed to work within Apple's guidelines (which is why MFI exists).

I would contact Morphie as it may be a hardware issue or whoever manufactured the cord.
