The "Home" button is acting up

I have 2nd. Gen iPhone and at the beginning it was all good. Then I jailbroke the phone and started loading apps from both Cydia and the App Store.

I have noticed a deterioration in the response of the "home" button to a point where I have to press it a good 5 - 8 times before it responds.

Does anyone have any clues, fixes, or suggestions?
