Ok, I have a big problem with my new/used iBook (bought off eBay). I can hear it starting up, but the screen stays black. Here is how it started...
I have had my computer for about a week, and it has been performing perfectly, but yesterday I woke it up from sleep, and it was frozen. A message came up telling me that I needed to restart. I did that while holding down the shift, ctrl, and option keys. The computer seemed to be okay after that, and I reset the date and time preferences. After using the computer for half an hour or so, it crashed. I tried command option escape, and then waited a few minutes. The screen started flashing and displaying bits and pieces of different windows, completely unreadable. So, I turned it off, and tried restarting, which worked, but then it crashed again. The next time I tried to restart, the computer failed to start up, so I started from the Hardware Test CD. I ran the extended test and it said that everything was okay. After that it started up again, but then crashed, again.
Now the screen is completely black. When I try to start up from a CD, I can hear it spinning, but the screen is still black. The iBook also makes the start up ring, but no picture. It's plugged into the AC adapter, and that's it, no other devices or cables. I have tried starting up holding the option key, shift key, option shift and control keys, and the C key, and none of those work.
I would like to know if this can be fixed, and if I can do it myself. If not, how much will it cost? Also, could this be the fault of ther person on eBay who sold it to me? Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Thanks in advance,
Cody
