I keep reading postings questioning Apple and the rumored switch from a 3.5mm headphone jack to the universal lightening connector. It is inevitable that the end of the 3.5mm jack will happen. Apple has always pushed the envelope like dropping 5.25" disks for the smaller more capable 3.5" disk them dropping a disk in the machine all together and installing a RW CD before anyone else did it. Sure dropping the 3.5mm jack will mean a thinner iPhone but it will also plug a giant hole for water to get in. Apple wants to make the iPhone more water resistant and that is a good thing. And the lightening connector will open the door for a whole set of hardware add on's. It is a move forward by a company accused of not innovating anymore.
I read an interview this morning and something stuck with me. In the past when the Mac was the main product, if 1% of the buyers had a problem it meant thousands of people. Today, with a billion iPhones sold, if 1% are affected, it means tens of millions of buyers are affected. The bar is immeasurably higher today than it used to be.
