The iPhone is capable of so much more...

Two iPhone capabilities I'd love to see in the future:

- as a household universal remote. Would love to be able to control volume/channels via iPhone.
- as a remote for my car: auto start, lock/unlock, beep horn if can't find vehicle in parking lot etc.

There are apps for both of those things....

A search around the App Store wont hurt ;)

lol you just want the iphone to suddenly be capable with every device in your house and your car? All these things are do-able and have apps already you just need the correct equiptment.

There are apps to give the iPhone RF and IR hardware capabilities?

Really?

Please, show me an app that can have my iPhone replace my infrared remote control, or my radio frequency car key fob.

(and yes, there are HARDWARE solutions for these things, but that's quite a bit different from telling someone to go to the app store)

So, your saying you want these features fully integrated into the iPhone? Where exactly would you put the transmitters? What are you willing to give up? Camera? Bluetooth? Battery life?

Considering the number of people interested in these features is quite a small minority, I think the hardware add ons are more than sufficient.

I think he was just (correctly) pointing out to the other people who imply that it is as simple as downloading an application when it's really not.

I think we need an iPhone image like the classic MBAircraft carrier edition image.

You know, an iPhone that has been extended for all these things. Hell if it has a signal of some kind the iPhone should be able to send and receive it!

The iPhone 5 gets ham radio signals, right? Has a sonar system built in? The camera can see in UV and Infrared, right? Has removable zoom lenses? Anti-gravity?

...the new lightsaber app has a real lightsaber?

Come on ppl, don't let me down! Someone do a mockup!

Yup, I don't want either of them, just smacking down the big talkers on here ;-)

You mean the 'big talkers' who said "you just need the right equipment" and "it won't come cheap" before you posted?

Yeah, who could have guessed they were talking about buying hardware?
