I'm really surprised that it wasn't done earlier and the lack of noise on this, but Apple finally added a feature that should have been there from the start and should be enabled by default.

Battery Save

Prior to trying this, my Apple Watch would last about 12 hours under normal usage. (That is barely touching it and using it for payments, and that's about it). It's a series 6 with cellular.

The battery is also down to 81% capacity and I was about to give up on it, and then yesterday I downloaded the new Watch OS 9 to try the new battery save mode.

All I will say is the watch gives the same functionality as before, but I'm now almost 24 hours in, and I have 56% capacity left in my watch.

WHY DID APPLE NOT DO THIS FROM THE START?!?!?!?!? 🤦🏻‍♂️

It actually makes my watch useful again. I don't have to worry about charging it or constantly having battery anxiety (not that I do), when I'm out and about.

THIS is the feature Apple should have added from the start!

My S5 lasts from 5:30 am to 22:30 pm with around 20-30% battery left with AOD on.
And this is the main reason, I will use the new battery saving feature only when necessary: It turns off AOD.

28 hours in and 47% battery remaining. I may even see two days of life in this mode!

Yeah it's a really nice option. Personally, once they added the fast charging puck to the series 7, battery life became a non-issue. I just charge daily while drinking my morning coffee.

I’m not sure that this new mode is really anything special. We always had the option to turn off most of the features I believe that this mode does turn off. The only advantage with this is that it’s just a single switch to make all the changes rather than having to turn things off individually.

How is this possible? Do you have basically everything turned off? (is this GPS model?)

My S5 lasts typically from 6:30AM to 9:30 with 5-10% left (if i'm lucky)

41 mm Stainless steel model, but I don't use cellular. I turned off most (for me) unnecessary notifications like the stand up notification or the hand wash notification, but other than that, I don't think I have turned off much. 🤔
That being said, it also depends which watch face I'm using, as the Siri watch face, for example, does drain the battery more (maybe 10-15%).
