Dear hivemind, a question: I'm looking to purchase an external display for my 13" MBA, but I abhore the super glossy screens on the new cinema displays. So, I'd like to purchase an older, matte Apple display (from Ebay or wherever else). Which model was the last one to have a matte display and/or which was the best?

Any help much appreciated.

lol 'hivemind'

i don't think Apple ever sold matte displays as of recent?

the best bet would be to get a matte display from an OEM like Dell or HP. Or Lenovo.

then 20" aluminium display although its old tech now..

you'd be better off with a Dell ultrasharp

The last was the 30" (2560x1600) and 23" (1920x1200) models, with the 30"er being the one that lasted the longest, as it was around at the same time as the glossy 24".

As such, you can still pick up 30" ACDs in very good condition. 23"era you have to be a bit more picky on, and be wary of pink fringing on the edges.

Many thanks, everyone. I do currently use a Dell Ultrasharp at work (plugged into the MBA), and it's good, but I was hoping for something more aesthetically pleasing to use at home. It sounds like it isn't worth it, though, which is a shame. Maybe I can buy another Dell monitor, and paint it silver....:p

get a nice IPS display from Dell, like the just released U2412M. IPS display :)

from my perspective the 30 inch display is simply a work of art. Def try to get one may be not for primary use but as a secondary display.

Tell you what....

I have an as-new 24" Apple Cinema Display (aluminum case) with the anti-glare screen. My desk situation is such that I can use either without a problem.

Buy me a new 27" Apple LED Cinema Display and I'll swap you even for it!!!
