ny somewhere
updated to 10.7.4. wanted to bring back the smaller launchpad icons (there's instructions all over the web about this); you replace the "Dock" file from 10.7.1 (in Dock>Package>MacOS>Dock) in the current dock.

only...i've lost the old file (or something).

does anyone have the 10.7.1 dock? PM me if, and i'll give u my email address..

unless anyone knows where i could DL that file.

thanx!

and...

does this trick no longer work? anyone?
it DOES reduce the icon sizes, but also messes up the desktop picture (it uses the default from the OS, and nothing works in the Desktop system preference pane...)

does anyone else hate the large launchpad icons? (or is it just me... :D )

Me too!

this happened to me as well. it changed the icon size, but "broke" my desktop background to default and i was unable to change it. glad to know i wasn't doing something wrong.

and am glad to know it's not just me. i did the icon-size hack, had the same issues, and dl'd and ran the 10.7.4 combo updater. tried again, same thing.

ugh. hopefully someone will figure a workaround...
and hope all the sites that posted instructions on this update their info!

launchpad icon size hack

if i find a new "trick" to make the jumbotron icons smaller again i will post here. i don't understand why apple has them so large. i was really hoping today's update would address this and at least give users the option to resize the icons like you can in finder and on the desktop.

take care!

Ah yes, another annoyance. I deliberately blew up my dock (so to speak) years ago. I use a ton of keyboard shortcuts for everything, including launching Apps :D

i've been using 'dockgone' for years. works surprisingly well in 10.7.x.
ideal (for me, anyway) on a 13" macbook. i can use full-screen WITH a menubar, and am happy (well, happy enough)... :D

solution...maybe

hi...

lion designer 3 has the option to make launchpad icons small or big. i have emailed the developer and specifically asked if it will work without breaking the desktop background in 10.7.4. i have not heard back but thought i would post here about the software in case anyone wanted to try and see what happens for themselves.

i tried that in (sigh) round 1 of my attempt to get smaller icons. it worked...
AND still got locked into the default desktop, and the preference pane corrupted.
so...same problem as trying the 10.7.1 dock file.
be WARNED!
