The lockdown they've done at Apple for the developers working on the new Maps app, does anyone know what the objective of it is?

We know they're trying to improve the maps, but what's the purpose of this "lockdown"? Do they have them working over-hours? Is the maps app constantly updating while they're working? Or does it last a certain amount of time, and once they're done, we'll see a big over-haul in the maps?

I personally don't see any problem with the application itself, just the mapping data its being fed. When that improves, it will be a damn good app.

There probably is no 'lockdown.' It's just a story. If there were any purpose to, or likely achievement from, a lockdown they would have done it before release, not after.

It probably means that their team is only working at maps and getting it fixed and that is it.

Quite.

That's why the article that reported it made no sense.

The App itself could no doubt do with some improvements, but that's not going to solve the problems with the maps.
