C'mon, let's do it, let's write a MacRumors novel. :)

One paragraph per post - you can put in as many posts as you want in the thread, but not consecutive ones.

Okay, here goes, paragraph number one:

Shane stared at the clock and sighed. How many more times would his brother let him down? How many more false promises? He'd vowed this time he would turn up, and would finally tell Shane the truth of what happened six years before. But it seemed like he hadn't the courage to do it. Until this day.

He'd vowed this time he would turn up, and would finally tell Shane the truth of what happened six years before. But it seemed like he hadn't the courage to do it. Until this day.

It had been that kind of year for the young man—dreams started coming true, but never in the way he had expected them to. He had wanted a child, but he did not conceive one with his wife. He had wanted a small house on a big lot, and, well... But for Shane to confront the loss that left him broken a half-dozen years ago would require more than his brother Pete acting like a brother.

He had wanted a small house on a big lot, and, well... But for Shane to confront the loss that left him broken a half-dozen years ago would require more than his brother Pete acting like a brother.

But Pete finally arrived. When Shane opened the door he didn't know whether to hug or hit his brother, love versus hate, he was drowning in his own emotions. He took a deep breath, and opted for a middle-of-the-road handshake, but when he extended his hand Pete refused to accept it, his glare leaving Shane cold to the bone.

Shane was quite perplexed, yet at the same time, not surprised. It's not like Pete would completely forget what happened long ago. In fact, it seemed like Pete was more aggravated with Shane than ever before due to the fact that all this time they haven't spoken more than a sentence or two to each other. It was Pete's turn to make a move, for better or worse.

<sorry for the interruption>

May I recommend that members who are intending to extend the story please add a placeholder post, then edit it with their contribution? In other words, when you see that you want to add to the current story, reply to the thread with something like "...to be continued..." or whatnot, then edit that post with your addition?

That should stop people from stepping on each other's toes. Obviously, if the new addition isn't added in a timely manner, others can feel free to step in.

Just a suggestion. Pardon the intrusion.

For what seemed like an eternity, the two brothers stared at each other. Pete knew Shane was as uncomfortable as he was, yet he wasn't willing to speak. But Shane knew he had to say it. There was no more avoiding it. He took a deep breath, and barely managed to say,
"So, I see you're unharmed."

"Yes," said Pete. "Glad to see you aren't in any pain as well."
"I do my best to stay out of trouble now."
"Pfft. If only you would have learned that sooner than later."
Shane couldn't believe what he just said. A moment passed. "Well, come in."

"Yes, I think I will." Pete said as he walked into the house. He looked around. It had been years since he had been here. And unsurprisingly, It hadn't changed a bit. He picked out a beaten and worn down armchair to sit in, and Shane sat across from him.
"Alright, I need to know; Why are you here?" Shane said with a bit of agitation in his voice.
"I think you know why."
"No, I don't think I do."
Pete sighed and shook his head.
"You really don't know? Maybe I should explain."

Shane stood up from his bed, and walked over to his desk.
"I won't let you do this to me again," Shane said to his stapler. "You have failed me for the last time."
The stapler looked back at him, with an evil glint in its handle. It saw an opportunity. It leapt up and stapled his lower lip to his chin.
"I don't need you any more! I'm leaving!" the stapler exclaimed

you dont have to use this if it doesn't quite fit.

Sorry, Scarlet Fever. I couldn't think of anything to go with it. Sorry!

Pete didn't really want to have to explain the ordeal to Shane. Those images still haunted him to this day. He spaced out for about a few seconds as he thought about it. That November night, driving along the mountain side. The heavy rain falling down. The slickness of the road. All of them still haunted his mind. Shane was confused what was going on. It was at that point Pete pulled himself back into reality before anything else could come into mind.

"Well, aren't you going to tell me?!" Shane exclaimed.
"Shane, that was a horrible night, I can't believe you don't remember it."
Suddenly, it all came back to Shane.
This wasn't planned for. Shane had expected something totally different from his brother. He figured Pete would make up a lie about the reason he was here, like he always did. But he was actually referring to a real event this time.
But something didn't fit. It was a real reason, but it didn't make sense. That night happened so long ago, why did it matter now?
Shane knew he had to find out.

After finishing his pie, he decided that he mustn't waste his time eating. So he slapped a $20 bill on the table and ran out of the restaurant. He stepped into his 1996 Ford Escort Wagon and shut the door. He pulled out the key from his pocket and put it into the ignition. Shane tried to turn the key but it would not budge. He tried once more but to no avail. Out of the corner of his eye he saw a sketchy figure coming closer...

Meanwhile...

A mysterious figure in a dark basement taps on a keyboard. He hesitated for a moment and then hit the enter key. Immediately hard drives start spinning and lights on modems start blinking. He lights a cigarette and reclines in his chair.

UPLOAD COMPLETE appeared on the screen.

Shane decided to prod Pete for a real answer this time. He would take no more of Pete's lies. Shane decided the time was now.
"Pete, what happened?"
Pete replied,"I'm not sure? I was so loopy on drugs and alcohol to really know what was going on."
Then Pete went silent for a moment to ponder what he had just admitted to his brother before continuing.

Shane couldn't believe what he had just heard. "Wait, you were on alcohol and drugs? I mean, I know you drank, but drugs? What exactly did..."
"It's not important now," Pete snapped. He put his head in his hands.
"Yes, it is. If I am to understand what exactly is going on, then I better damn well get all this straight."
"Fine, whatever. If you really want to know, just listen."

"Remember when we were kids? The problems we had when dad died of cancer and mom commit suicide dealing with it? It was hard and I turned to the only thing that I had available to me. Drugs. I started with heroin but it developed into a terrible addiction. I started trying new ways to mask the pain I felt but none of them worked after a while. I had to keep taking more and more drugs before I got the same high I did the first time I tried them. It seemed like my legs collapsed beneath me and I couldn't move forward, all I could do was slip into the shadows. I'm sorry."

"You almost killed us! You could've came to me, but you decide to put both of us in intense danger? If mom and dad were still alive imagine what you would've put them through! Your selfishness just about got us killed!"

"I... I'm sorry, Pete. I didn't mean to put it that way. It's just... This is happening all at once and..."
"I know. I'm sorry too," Pete said as he put his hand on Shane's shoulder. "I would never had wanted this to happen if I could have somehow stopped it all."
It was at that point when Shane saw a tear stream down Pete's face.

Shane was distressed at the sight of his brother crying, something he hadn't done since they both hadn't got iMacs one Christmas. His emotional gears shifted without a clutch for just a moment, as he tried to both comfort his brother and find a way to make him forget his horrible past. "What the hell", he thought. "I'll just take him to a restaurant and have him eat his feelings, like I did during my own emotional catastrophes.

He shifted his 400 pounds toward a McDonald's. "C'mon Pete, let's get a little something to eat. It'll make you feel better." Obediently, Pete followed his brother toward the realm of the Golden Arches.

Little did they know who, or more importantly, what was in the restaurant that fateful evening.

After placing orders totaling over $40.00, the brothers squeezed into a window booth near the drive-through side of the restaurant. They were both used to silence while eating, so there was no awkward feelings for either man as they each down a McFeast of his choosing. Shane broke the silence offering Pete a refill. "What's your poison?", Shane asked as he stood, neither man noticing the girls across the way, who were admiring the mens' eating talents. Or, maybe they were grossed out. Or, maybe there was something else about them.

The two men continued in this fashion until everything was finished, or at least until they though that everything was finished. Pete dug under the seat and unearthed a french fry. Evertyhing was surely done. The events of earlier today had not come to mind as to each his own they just savoured the sweet scented sauce of the McMeal. They finished their meal but still, unbeknownst to them, the mysterious stranger still plotted in his basement.

Then the mysterious basement man flipped a few switches and turned a few knobs and started laughing like a maniac. He had set off an EMP bomb that he concocted him self. Five miles away Shane fell on the the greasy McDonalds floor as his pace maker suddenly stopped. Pete gasped as the whole restaurant went pitch black and his brother was flopping on the ground...

After a few minutes of darkness and panic the lights flickered back on. Shane seemed alright but still was a little shook up. A beeping noise broke the silence while everyone got situated..The fries were done.

The mysterious basement man had created a emp bomb that wasn't actually an emp bomb, but a powerful energy sucker that drew all surrounding energy towards in and stored in a glowing sphere. The sphere was brilliant white in its plexiglass case. The mystery man put on his sunglasses and said.. "Now for phase two."

And in headline news today, what is now being referred to as the worst terrorist act in all of Slovkiania is currently being investigated. Apparently a very famous burger chain store that is remaining anonymous for now is the subject of this massacre, reporting now at the scene is Asian-African correspondent Trisha Xain-Brown. Over to you Trisha...
