Following the announcement of Apple's upcoming "Awe dropping" event, on this week's episode of The MacRumors Show we talk through all of the new accessories rumored to debut alongside the iPhone 17 lineup.

We take a closer look at Apple's invite for "Awe dropping;" the design could hint at the iPhone 17's new thermal system with vapor chamber cooling and a more heat-conductive aluminum chassis. The orange and blue also likely hints at the purported orange color option for the iPhone 17 Pro and the blue color finish for the iPhone 17 Air.

New "Liquid Silicone" cases are rumored to debut alongside the iPhone 17, as well as more premium "TechWoven" cases. TechWoven is expected to take the place of Apple's previous FineWoven and leather cases, but with improved durability. The iPhone 17 Air could also get a Smart Battery and an iPhone 4-style bumper case. All of the new cases are expected to feature support for a "Crossbody Strap," a new magnetic lanyard accessory.

Meanwhile, the long-awaited AirPods Pro 3 could arrive at the event. The new model is expected to feature heart-rate monitoring, improved active noise cancellation, tweaked earbuds, and a slightly smaller charging case with a hidden capacitive pairing button. The iPhone 17 Pro may also offer reverse wireless charging for AirPods.

@Dan Barbera you and @Hartley need to come up with something more educational and interesting to keep your viewership. These podcasts are getting more boring and nonsensical each week. We need to hear about things of substance; not iPhones color rumors and size/orientation of camera bumps.

Probably could place blame on Timmy Apple for lack of vision/innovation. Nowadays seems like all Apple does is sell vanilla ice cream pretending it is something else entirely.

I was about to post something very similar to the first paragraph. Maybe only podcasts when there's something interesting. It feels like you're padding.

Don't agree with the second paragraph.

Wanted to let others know I’d you go to the Apple website on your phone and touch the Apple with your fingers, it has interaction. Pretty cool touch

I'm sorry. I know I'm going to get hammered for being negative, but the entire premise of this show is sad.

I've been part of the cult of Cook for a long time, and all of Apple's cases look aesthetically pleasing. I'm just not keen on getting one of their cases. Their cases look weak and will not protect my phone. It would be nice if Apple actually came out with a case that was rugged. Until then I have had UAG on my 11, 12, 15, and soon to be 17 Pro Max.

I think is probably the new vapour chamber cooling feature, the logo image. I was hoping is nanolens tech for cameras, but that is still set for 2026-27 seems like.

I'm so over buying a new phone. And you know what? that previous 'Apple Intelligence ready' deception isn't persuading me now. Just saying. I'm pretty sure I'll get past that in a couple of years. That is, if they make progress within a couple of years LOL

We all need to get over Apple Intelligence. They screwed up, they've effectively admitted it. What's next.

I think they should also switch devices to "26" nomenclature. iPhone 26. MacBook Air 26. Apple Watch 26. AirPods Pro 26.

Is ‘Awe dropping’ even a phrase?
No. And nothing about this update warrants the use of the word ‘awe’ ar all. Unless there’s some new revolutionary tech then it is a minor spec bump at best. Most exciting thing I’ve read so far is the dual video using front and back cameras and a possible bump to 24mp on the front facing camera. Other than that nothing that warrants the hyperbole of ‘awe’ or ‘hame changer’.

I’ve updated annually for the last decade. This year I think I will let common sense prevail and sit it out.

Agreed, it’s almost because of articles like this is why we can’t have nice things (I know I’m exaggerating). But getting people hyped for minuscule or meaningless updates for no reason is why apple keeps getting away with it year after year.

I think the invite could be a heat map showing a new infrared and red-light functionality for Apple Health. The science is called Photobiomodulation. https://bit.ly/PBM-database is curated by a science writer; he has curated over 8800 (!!!) science papers on the topic. Apple Health could track red and near-infrared light exposure during the day -- from sunlight and red light "health lamps". Users would be encouraged to track and increase their "light nutrition" in this well-known range of theraputic frequencies: a fourth fitness ring. I've explained in detail why I think this could be happening: https://bit.ly/FourthFitnessRing .

"Vapor Chamber" cooling is an encouraging development.

After using many Pro Max models over the years, anything Apple does to cool these phones is a big improvement.

If true, it will be a terrific opportunity to pass on buying this year, let apple work out the bugs and then buy the improved model next year.

I am ready for a iPhone 17 pro. Hopefully all the promises check out without a big price increase. 🙌🏻

If it is then I’m prepared for some awe-fully over the top hyperbole over the benefits of liquid glass, which I’m anticipating with the same excitement I would if somebody were to rearrange all my furniture without reason then made me run to the front door at 3 AM.
