iOS 18 has now been officially released after months of beta testing. On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we talk through our top features in Apple's latest major software update.

We go through some of iOS 18's significant system changes, including the redesigned Control Center and new Home Screen customization tools, as well as some of the smaller quality-of-life enhancements such as the Passwords app, RCS support, improvements to the Notes app, and emojis as tapbacks in Messages. We also touch on iPhone mirroring in macOS Sequoia, and some of the areas we'd like to see Apple work on for next year's updates. The next major version of iOS 18 will be iOS 18.1, which will start to bring Apple Intelligence to ordinary users around the world. I nearly fell out of my chair when you mentioned the Control panel customization.
i will venture to say 25% or even less will change anything.
If my wife’s life depended on pulling up the control center, I don’t think it would end well.

Probably the most recent .0 release in recent memory where I'll actually be using some of these updates on a day to day basis. The fact alot of them were things users have been wanting makes me think this had to be a strat on the dev team when they mapped out what to do for v18.0.

Favorite is RCS simply because of a friend who's always been Android and always will be and this just make it alot better - whatever the motivation, glad to see that done. The extra stuff in iMessage, whether its time to send or the other enhancements will just get used. Will be using the UI customization for the base screens. The math enhancements will get used (for currency conversions mostly that I do occasionally - they need to get it working in iMessage consistently, currently Notes and Calculator have it working well).

You're probably right although 25% would be a huge number.

I desperately want the Dev's to enable the Control Center power button (default upper right) so we have an easy / quick power menu trigger. Touching it seems to indicate it was put there as a button - but the plumbing didn't make it for .0 release.

Seems to work for me.

Button works fine, but i can see how it could be a bit confusing as while it does animate slightly with just a quick press you actually have to press and hold to get the slide to power off shutdown screen to appear.

Got two things today: 16 Pro and Air Pods Max. This is embarrassing though. I thought the Desert whatever color that is seemed cool on my computer so wanted that, and I decided on the 16Pro (vs P. Max) thinking they were pretty much the same but cheaper (S.O. does not drink the "Apple Cider" let's just say so price matters). I got home, opened the box and the first thing (my very liberal S.O. says is - "that's PINK!" You really want "THAT" color? Ahem, not really, I reply. Then I held the phone (before taking off the cover paper) and it was palpably smaller than my old 12 Pro Max. I knew instantly I screwed up. "Once you go big....." So, with tail between my legs, I returned to Apple store (3rd time today) - queues were even more massive than earlier, and I got a res. for the LAST ProMax Titanium. Going back later to exchange. As for the Air Pod Max - well, I waited for this update only to be disappointed that the only thing that seemed to change was a color choice and switch to USB-C. Not waiting for anything better. My purple APM are GORGEOUS.

I don't understand the whole I'm sitting on a toilet face? Just smile or don't have your faces on the image. Every week you guys look depressed or that you don't want to be doing this.

New iPhone 16 Pro, v4 iPods and Apple Watch 10, so I spent way too much money. I decided this time to go for a Pro instead of a Pro Max.

I think the new camera control will grow on people, once people get used to it.

I’m waiting on a watch 10 (due Monday) to replace my 7 and an iPhone 16 Pro (due 26th September to 1st October) to replace my 14 Pro. Looking forward to fresh batteries ( current phone and watch are both down around 80% capacity), the camera improvements and really hoping the capture button doesn’t disappoint.

My #1 favorite update is the "Send Later" option in messages.

I get my best ideas in the middle of the night, and now I don't wake up my family and friends to share my brilliant ideas at 3am :)

I'm very happy I can now remove the flashlight and camera from the lock screen; I used to accidentally turn them both on a lot. I've also had someone pick up my locked phone and take tons of pictures.

I am confused why you organize the control center for lights, I use voice (Siri) to work my lights by room and use voice to open apps light flashlight.

Am I doing it inefficiently or do you have use cases where voice doesn’t work in your environment.
