On this week's episode of The MacRumors Show, we discuss WWDC 2023 and whether Apple's long-awaited mixed-reality headset will emerge at the event.

Earlier this week, Apple announced that 2023's WWDC will take place between June 5 and June 9. Apple is believed to have recently shown off the headset to its top 100 executives in a "polished, glitzy, and exciting" event at the Steve Jobs Theater ahead of the device's expected announcement at WWDC.

However, reports claim that Apple employees have serious concerns about many aspects of the headset, such as its price, weight, and usefulness – questioning if the device is "a solution in search of a problem." Most recently, analyst Ming-Chi Kuo corroborated many of these worries and reported that Apple has pushed back mass production of the headset yet again and cut shipment expectations for this year, casting doubt over whether it will appear at WWDC at all.

We also discuss Apple Music Classical, iOS 17, Apple Watch blood glucose monitoring, the rumored MacBook Air with an OLED display, and Apple TV+.

Given the advantage that the meta quest has in the market, I have trouble seeing Apple succeed here. They'd have to partner with an established game company at the bare minimum, even if their vision isn't solely for gaming.

They will even come in multiple colors and take design cues from the beloved iMac G3 (blueberry, grape, tangerine, lime and strawberry)

I’m still seeing it as a niche market. I think the true breakthrough will be when AR glasses go mainstream

Interesting there's staff and employee pushback on the headset. Those folks are right. This is a mistake for Apple to chase. Other iterations in the marketplace have really been soft sellers. Most folks I know -- including my son -- who have Oculus devices have them sitting on the shelf gathering dust. There's certainly an industrial use for augmented reality, but Apple's not really an industrial supplier.

Move on Tim. Take the loss and give the folks something they want...

I firmly believe Apple is on the right track. Yes, light AR glasses is the really attractive product, but new technologies take time to develop. We saw that with every product Apple has launched. The 1984 Mac (over $7000 adjusted for inflation), the iPhone and the Apple Watch all needed time to develop and prepare the market for what they offered. As Henry Ford was reported saying, “If I asked people what they wanted, they would have said a faster horse.” I see a lot of that going on right now. I plan to buy one of those gadgets just for the pure joy of early adoption.

They should have just focused on an affordable set of display glasses powered by a phone.

Maybe there are insurmountable obstacles, but then again maybe not. Seems to me the first company that does this will
have their own iPhone moment. VR glasses powered externally.

It's obvious this will eventually be huge. I'm mean, that's the whole point of this (now mess)

How much everything changed in the iOS 17 speculation, earlier not that many changes to iOS 17 will be a lot more of a major update with many requests possibley implemented. All of that slightly more than 2 months from now.

Yep, but Tim has been desperate to leave his mark and this was easy timewaster stuff that analysts ate up along with Apple car. Meanwhile AI is leaving Apple in the dust. Tim will still be known for his lack of vision but excellent at milking what was already there.

Too many ********s, quoting of quotes, a fabrications of their own stories and conclusions. These two are killing the MacRumors as a concept, especially guy on the right which is tripping so much... I mean, like he working for Apple and goes an all project management meetings. Terribly boring, full of nonsense and fabrications. I would just throw a chair at both of them.

So I just watched a few minutes of this video and I am amazed by how people genuinely do not understand what Classical music encompasses… How can anyone think that Opera is not Classical, I mean the guy (on the left) seems really confused about what Classical music is.
11:49 Just weird.
Anyway, hopefully the app will help educate people what it is all about…

But it is still very strange and perplexing that there is no Classical app for MacOs or iPad.

Apple hasn’t revealed what other sort of features are coming to Apple Music Classical, but the service currently lacks dedicated apps for Mac, iPad, and CarPlay.
Probably more time to issue apps that work for those three usages. Might be revealed at WWDC.

Sorry but these video thumbnails are just way too creepy. Just don’t put peoples faces on thumbnails, that should be a common rule for good coliving on the internet.
The video is probably good but I wouldn’t click on that.

I'm even more confused that there is a separate app for this. No other music service does this. I have Tidal, Qobuz, and Amazon Music (I don't have Apple Music), and all three have genre selections for classical with wide catalogs of content. And better than Apple Music, all three stream hi-rez content through compatible portable devices by Bluetooth or wired high-quality headphones. (My preferred device is the FiiO M11 Plus LTD through either Sony WF-1000XM4 Bluetooth earbuds or Meze Rai Penta wired in-ear monitors).

But even without the ability to stream hi-rez to a headphone device on the iPhone, why Apple doesn't just incorporate this into their current Apple Music app escapes me...
