Whats so great about the m1 chip? On the mini high end versions, intel cpus are used abd bit the M1... so what so special about that new chip?

I guess it's special because it vastly outperforms every Intel CPU and iGPU that's available in a Mac Mini?

Reducing thermal footprint. Once upon a G5 with its deafening roar, those SCSI dries that were red hot, the m1 is inaudible. Mac Pro performance in a 3lb box?

In 1982 company went from S/370 to 4300 and paid for it due to lower cooling and power, plus while we had been adding floor space like mad, the 4300 was a compact machine. Also supported for more memory & storage cheaper

Server rooms found that if Seagate could offer a drive that needed less cooling and safe to run 5*C warmer, it would make a difference. Now doing the same with 4TB SSDs and above that also help data centers from Google, Facebook, NASA and others. I'm sure the military will like having such devices some day.

The m1 Air prime examble for users. If they can actually go all day without recharging or burning while on your lap(top). But we are still at Day One on the bleeding edge with m1.
