WTF so the 17" unibody mbp can handle 8gb of ram but will the 15" mbp handle that much ram as well??

Have people tried it after the latest firmware updates? Maybe its possible now, or soon? The hardware is exactly the same as the 17" mbp so I dont see why not.

If not, looks like I'll be putting my 15" mbp up on ebay again to get the 17" mbp to get that 8gb of ram performance. :p

Ah..because there are two slots so you have to have a 4GB slot. Gotcha.

Those prices will fall. But they had better do whatever it is they need to do to "enable" the 8 GB upgrade on all MBP/MBs that should be able to support it.

I know these MBPs currently handle 6 GB just fine. I know that Apple has claimed support for only 4 GB, and it seems completely arbitrary. I wish they'd just come clean with a good reason or remove the limitation.

Forcing you to get the 17". :p

NewEgg has 3 different 4 GB chips. One is $199, the others are well above $300. I wonder why the discrepancy?

new egg ram

Edit: whoops, probably not the right type of memory... this would work for the SR/Penryn MBPs, though.

I sure hope the 15" unibody will support 8gb. Right now, while running XP in Parallels 4, I only have a couple of megabytes free, and I've got 4gb total.
