I've just been looking on TFT Central in the panel database to try and work out possiblities for what's been used in this new display. There's no info on backlighting technology CCFL/LED/OLED. But these are the panels that most closely match the spec on the apple uk site.
(no panel is listed that is 14ms response time, or 330cd/m2)

Apple spec:
Display colours (maximum): 16.7 Million
Viewing angle: 178° horizontal / 178° vertical
Brightness (typical): 330 cd/m2
Contrast ratio (typical): 1000:1
Response time (typical): 14 ms

1.
Manufacturer: AUO

% NTSC Colour space: 72%

2.

3.
Manufacturer: Samsung

Module no: LTM240CS07
Resolution: 1920x1200

Colours: 8 bit
% NTSC Colour space: No info listed

Number 2 most closely matches the spec on apple site:
module no: LTM240W1-L04

of course the delay on shipping could be down to using a panel that's not listed on the database here:
http://www.tftcentral.co.uk/articles/panel_parts.htm

This is the best guess at the moment on the panel being used:
Samsung LTM240W1-L04
PVA and no info on NTSC%

NTSC: Why is this used as a standard for measuring colour gamut, I remember someone joking it stands for Never The Same Colour Twice, isn't Adobe RGB/sRGB a better standard to measure against? Feel free to point out why. :)
