My trusty iBook G4 is about to bite the dust and it is time for a new computer. I am a student and I need all the basics plus I like to dabble on the power-user side. I mess around a bit with video/photo editing. I am looking to spend around $1500
The two options I was considering were either getting a mid-end macbook. Or getting a low end iMac and a very cheap PC laptop.

I pretty much need a laptop for school and I also study abroad so the few times I go home I take my computer with me, but I really want to have the larger screen that comes with the iMac plus the addittional power would be nice. If i got the pc laptop I would want to spend about $400 and only use it for word processing, basic internet, and when I traveled.
What do you reccommend?

You should be able to afford a refurbished MBP (haven't checked prices lately though).

Or a High end MB.

Or a Middle of the road iMac.

Or a souped up Mac Mini

But not a Mac Pro.

I havnt looked at refurb pricing yet but is it that much better than the educational discount?
