I’ve just organised a folder of about 10,000 photos divided into years into distinct ‘event’ and ‘location’ folders that abandon the whole ‘everything in one bucket belonging to one year’ approach. This was done using the Files app entirely on the iPad. It took a few hours, but wow, I am impressed by the Files app. I ran into none of the limitations and awkward scenarios I have in the past with the old iCloud Drive app. I was able to drag, drop, move folders and files so much easier.
Something I missed about the Mac was the ability to manage complex file systems easily on Finder. Well now, we’ve got a good way to do it on the iPad. I assumed I’d be able to do things like this when I saw WWDC but having actually completed a real world organisation task on it I’m delighted the iPad was able to deliver. <See Screenshot of the folders>
I’ve also noticed some automatic smart tagging sort of aspect, I have a folder named ‘University File’ and ‘Work File’ - the first is automatically tagged as ‘Important’ and the latter is tagged under ‘Work’ - and I’m yet to actually interact with the tagging abilities. <See Screenshot>
It’s also quite nice being able to have quick access to the recents. Especially with some Numbers files I use daily such as tracking my work hours and planning my spending budget. And behind those Keynote’s, PDF scans etc that I’ve needed regularly. It stops me needing to dig into the file system so often and it’s making for the sort of ease of use a computer should - less repetitive, robot like processes for the human being to do, improving efficiency. I know the Mac had features like this but I must admit I never found myself making use of them quite so much. <See Screenshot of how my Recent Files look>
Have any of you had any good experiences with Files or the opposite yet to share?
