I got an Apple Watch with cellular so I could leave my bulky iPhone 12 Mini at home. It's a pretty awesome use case! Phone calls, texts with iMessage, and 2-factor codes with Authy all work easily.

Email and other things wait till I get to my Mac at the office.

Glad you're enjoying it, which one?

So you leave your phone at home all day?
If you're using your car to get to work, keep in mind that the AW does not connect to a cars BT system so can't use hands-free calling and such, but if you're using public transport, that's obviously not an issue.

Exactly. No CarPlay means I'm always taking the phone to the car anyway. But still, it's nice to be able to leave the phone in the car, which I often do.

Cellular Apple Watch are available from 2017.
And no, aren't an iPhone (mini) replacement.

Speaking of CarPlay, which I've been using since it's been available, an iPad (mini but not only) Cellular + GPS is enormously better, because CarPlay is another of those Apple solutions abandoned by the company and strangely not executable on iPadOS, may customers ever abandon that iPhone trash.

Today’s Apple Watches are significantly better smartphones than the original iPhone (which, back in its day, was no slouch).

I think that, perhaps, the biggest typical smartphone feature missing from the Watch is the camera. Wouldn’t have to be anything fancy; enough to scan receipts or take a picture of a doohickey before you go to the store to look for a replacement would be just fine.

And, of course, there’s the part about it being perpetually tied to an iPhone. For example, for SMS to work, your iPhone must be connected to both the phone network and the Internet, with your Watch also connected to the Internet. Not a problem if your phone is plugged in and turned on sitting on your bedstand, but …

times I take my phone to the car = ∞. Times I take my iPad = 0.

I leave the phone at honey most days. I do ride public transport a lot; my driving is mostly short range but for longer trips yes I'll put the phone in the car.
