I got the new MBP today. The $2000 version with 256 Vram vs. the higher 512 Vram machine.

I upgraded from a 2.16 white MacBook and am thoroughly please.

I was a little nervous about the previous posts of early versions of MBP getting extremely hot and transferring that heat through the casing directly into users' laps. I like to use my Laptop, well, on my lap a lot, so this was a minor concern.

After getting home I decided to do some temp readings around the machine after various stages of usage. Here's what I found so far running some movie and 3D games.

At a room temperature of 74F, and with the....

Onboard basic video chip: Bottom of MBP highest temp spot 101F
Keyboard and top of machine 95F
LED screen 85F

Nvidia 256MB Chip :Bottom 118F
Keyboard and top 105F
LED screen 86F

I took all readings with a Craftsman Infrared Thermometer.

No, the machine doesn't get soooo hot that you can't use it on your lap with at least a pair of long shorts, but girls, beware the short shorts. You'll have hot legs!

My fans very rarely ever went above 2000rpm in all stages while monitoring with iStat Pro widget.

So for anyone with any concerns, I think this revision will make you happy.
