I used to have the Early 2011 MBP and now that I have the MBPR, I have to say it's a BIG difference in sound due to the speakers. It feels like you have headphones on doesn't it?

I went from an 2011 air to a rMBP and didn't even know I would notice a difference since never knew they upgraded the speakers. But wow they are amazing!

Huge difference from the 2011 classic MBP for sure. Louder, with a much more full sound. It was a very pleasant surprise.

also coming from a 2011 Air, and the rMBP speakers are def a step up, but could still use some EQ tweaks. have you guys used the Boom app? i used it for a bit on my Air, since the volume was too low even on the highest level, but i wasn't sure if it was safe to push that speaker's capacity. i'd like to use it on my rMBP also, but not if it'll damage these speakers.

I was blown away by the jump of the speakers on the original rMBP, but the new one's speakers are even better than that. Any previous rMBP owners notice the difference?

Great quality speakers indeed. First noticed it when doing Facetime: the sound was so loud and clear, full sound. Everybody in the room with me noticed it.

After that I started playing music more often to enjoy it :)

You can also add a volume booster and equalizer via an app called Boom. It's $5 and available from the Mac App Store. To me, it further enhances the sound without introducing distortion. You can also try it first here:

Wow. I was playing Song for Zula off of Spotify when I installed this and it immediately sounded 10x better. Definitely buying this.
