Why don't the snapping go all the way to the edge of the screen? why does it leave little gaps?

Any reason for this?

You do realize you can get rid of them in System Settings/Desktop & Dock/Displays have separate Spaces.
Just toggle it off.

I disabled this behavior using System Settings → Desktop & Dock → Tiled Windows Have Margins.
This is actually the true answer, but the guy above brought me to the same area and was able to figure it out from there.
 
Actually I prefer to disable the 'Tiled windows have margins' and leave 'Displays have separate Spaces' enabled.
That way for me is more productive as I can work on two panels at the same time, have two different web pages opened side by side etc, etc.

But as they say.......'every man to his own'.
