Sounds great.
We still need more pixels of course for smoother fonts, and better definition of small typefaces on screen as 1024x768 is just not enough these days.
However, better colour would be great also and I hope we see this in real consumer products very soon. Always very sad when this type of thing looks amazing and never seems to get out of the lab.

When the iPad first appeared, reviews were generally very enthusiastic about the quality of the display. For instance Engadget said:

As we mentioned at the start of the review, the iPad is all about its screen, and Apple's 9.7-inch LED backlit IPS display does not disappoint. Colors on the screen are vibrant and saturated, while blacks feel true and deep.

Even the more detailed (technically) AnandTech noted:

Whatever the numbers say, the display is beautiful in use and blows away most others. It's brilliant in use as a photo frame, for movies, reading books, and surfing the web.

So I was a little suprised to hear that same screen described (a mere fourteen months later) as "muddy and crappy." How quickly we become jaded, I guess.

Nanosys' technology does sound interesting. But its also important to recognize that a type of technology that does one thing very, very well isn't necessarily the right technology for a device like the iPad, which has to serve a wide variety of uses and functions.

Guess we're all spoiled by the retina display.
