The next iPhone will be called...

4G is dumb, as it will likely still be on a 3G network. Plain old "iPhone 4" might confuse people with the OS update. HD is already so played it's not funny, and it doesn't seem very Apple like to use a name that's already so ubiq. So what says you? What will the next iPhone be called?

Personally I think that "HD" is most likely. I think that "3GS" is a bad name; we don't want to end up with those "serial number names" like the Philips 32PFL3504D/F7.

I think they went with 3GS because the hardware design remained identical to the 3G.

I think A4 might appeal to like 20 people on a Mac forum, but to the average millions, it won't make a bit of sense.

What about iPhone+? iPhone XL? iPhone IV?

Maybe they'll call it iPhone Maxi, then they could bundle it with an iPad...Maxipad.

Apple isn't above confusing people. Trying to find accessories for my aluminum Macbook is hard as heck when searching for them. My wife has one of the newer unibody plastic mackbooks and it was a real pain trying to find a shell for it that wasn't the old style plastic macbooks. So there's definitely a track record of confusion by Apple.

As for the name...

I say "iPhone" (and it will be referred to as the 2010 iPhone, just like macbooks and macbook pros) or "iPhone G4" since they've called computers G4 in the past.

They could support more porn and call it the "iPhone XX X"( get it... 20 10 ) Ok, yes, I need sleep!

I know "G#" in Apples name before referred to the generation of the processor. But simply referring to the generation of the device.

The macbook, macpro, iPod nano, iPod touch all don't get a name when they get an update....
