Okay so I have decided to buy the next MBP no matter how long the wait is. But I was wondering what everyone thinks the next graphics card will be in the MBP. Are there any new cards being released around the time of macworld or that are rumored to be in the next MBP's?

My guess is it will either remain the nVidia 8600m GT or they will upgrade it to the nVida 9 series (probably 9600). This is assuming they stay with nVidia, they could go back to ATI.

You're sick. They will NOT keep the 8600M GT. It's almost a year and a half old.

The 9650M GT is our best bet for the next card if it's nVidia.

I rather see Apple go back to ATI. But, that's my skewed opinion; better Core Image performance in the Pro apps actually matters to me.

But do you guys think, the new MBP would have more of a "creative creation" card, something LIKE the Quadro (no, I don't want a 5" thick MacBook Pro), like basically geared for more of video editing etc, or do you think they would put another card more geared towards gaming (like the current nVidia 8600mGT)? By the way, of these two categories, what does the old ATi X1600 actually fall into?

Thanks

There's currently nothing on the market from ATI that is better than the 8600M GT that isn't prohibitively hot, thanks to Apple's instance on keeping their pro level notebooks 1" thick.

Unless the Mobility 4*** series is out in time, I'd be both surprised and astronomically let down if Apple didn't go with Nvidia. The thought of a 3650 or 3670 in the next MBPs is just depressing..

Well considering that Apple is taking a long ass time to just refresh the MBP's, if the ATI 4*** mobility whatever (I don't know ATI very well) is out, they may go with that. Don't forget about the nVidia mobile GPU crisis at hand, depending on how hard everyone gets hit with that, Apple may change their minds on nVidia.

Do you really think ATI will have the Mobility 4***s out in time? Aren't the new notebooks already shipping to stores?

Don't think ATI is going to happen. Apple is probably ramping up production of these machines as we speak. Waiting for a vendor to introduce it and then have enough numbers to use for a major product like MBPs would make it impossible.

hmm... I really miss ATi cards in my MBP.... at least for the better drivers and better Core Image...
