I'm considering switching to a PowerBook pretty soon, and I was wondering if would be the right time to also purchase Office v. X. I'm in Japan, so the PowerBooks here aren't preinstalled with the Demo version of Office. However, Office for Windows is coming out in late October so I wondered if a newer version of Office for Mac would arrive any time soon.

Not that I know of, but even if it does, do you actually need it? I have the new Windows version, and to be honest, it's pretty much the same as the old one, except for some new icons, and the ability to frustrate people with DRM. Unless you require one of the new features, you should probably just stick with the current version.
