How does everybody plug the usb connector into the iphone? I wanted to know what the best way was to avoid damaging the connector.

I push the connector directly forward and apply pressure to make it go all the way in. It feels kind of rough so I am not sure if this is the right way.

Another method is to push one side of the plug in first then slide the rest in. It doesn't feel as rough but somehow I don't think this is the right way to do it.

When pulling it out I would do the reverse of either method above.

It says nothing about it in the manual. Anyone know the official way to plug in your iphone?

I push it straight in all the way with just a tad force, like what I do with USB connectors as well.
Never wiggle your way in with connectors.

Is this neccessary?

To answer your question, I plug in and unplug my phone in both ways. I have no issues.

It's always best to insert all at once, not side by side.

Actually, the best way is to firmly grab the base, and pull straight out in one motion. Do not wiggle it.

I am saying this from experience, as wiggling broke my connector which resulted in my first iPhone replacement. Since an Apple accessory broke my phone, they replaced it for free, but not willingly. They wanted to charge me 200$ even though their accessorry broke my phone. Hehe. It was fun raising hell in an Apple store.

Anyways, pull straight out (lulz) not wiggle.

As long as it goes in without too much force, you're fine. I've not really given much thought to how I plug in my iPod/iPhone for years now. Sometimes I put it in straight, sometimes one side goes in first. And never had a problem with the port. :)

This is how i do it

I purchased a kit off ebay to open up my phone. I open it up and start detaching ribbon cables and taking apart as much as I can. Then I strip all the wires and start wrapping them around the dock connector. This way it prevents scratching inside the dock connector. :D

Is this the OCD thread?

You plug it in, without forcing it. To unplug spin the cord in a circle as fast as you can until the plug disengages and the iPhone flies off.

Come on people really what’s next how to turn on your iphone..how about things better suited like when will Tom Tom or MMS be out

1. Position end of USB connector next to opening of USB port, so the edges of the connector match up exactly with the edges of the port.

2. Place thumb on top of USB connector protection sleeve, and place forefinger underneath the sleeve.

3. Using slight force with your thumb and forefinger, push the USB connector directly into the USB port, until it cannot be pushed further.

4. Remove thumb and forefinger from the USB sleeve.

5. Congratulations, you have made a successful USB connection.

I put on my silk gloves, lay a silk cloth upon a polished table, lay the precious device down in the middle and stroke it a few times.
Then remove the cable from its cushioned, silk lined box, put on my surgical face mask, and as gently as I possibly can I line up the socket and connector with a magnifying glass to make sure it's perfect, and slide it in while holding my breath.
Then, once it's charging, I kneel down and bow before it, as I say a prayer to the glowing Apple logo on my wall.
I think I'm about average?

no mention of being in a clean room.

Below Average.

:D

Am I the only one who thinks this thread would be very dirty if you removed references to dock connectors? "It's always best to insert all at once, not side by side."

Anyway, um, I just plug it straight in like with any other plug. I try to be careful but I don't baby it too much.

Is this the official thread for the Official™ How To Plug Your iPhone In?

I prefer sticking it in fast and straight.

Ok. So I'm having some trouble. Where EXACTLY do you press on the power button? About the center? Or more to the left or right? And do you lay your finger on it or do you use your nail? :D
