I was trying to add a new account on my MacBook but I saw that my account, the only one on this computer, is a "Standard" account and not an "Admin". So, when I press the lock to enable my changes, I type in my name and password but it doesn't accept it.
How do I give myself Admin privileges?

reboot your computer with your os x install disk in the drive. hold down the 'C' key while it boots up

once the Installer comes up, go to utilities and then password reset

you want to reset your password for the account 'root'

save changes and reboot back off your hard drive.

go into system preferences and then users and when you click the lock to make your account an admin, it'll prompt you for a username/password.

put 'root' and whatever you have set the password too and you'll be fine.
