All I want is the ability to check the last known battery life of my AirPods when they aren't connected to the phone.

I hate how I need to track down and open the case to see the battery life to see if they need charging. It's annoying as hell.

Why can't iOS simply show the last known battery life of the AirPods when they were last connected?

You’d think AirPods and especially the charging case could wake momentarily every ~8 hours to signal battery levels and iOS estimate between those readings based on historical idle drop rate.

But to me it’s mad you still have to use Find My to check battery levels on other iPads/Macs/iPhones etc. There’s still no battery widget integration.

It’s just not in the hardware. It has to be connected to Bluetooth to transmit that information. The 2nd gen AirPods Pro do it through the Find My app with the U1 chip. I think that technology will be pushed down to the next generation regular AirPods.
