Will Apple still replace it for free even if I'm out of warranty like they do with the palm rest (those are cracked, too) or am I going to have to pay out-of-pocket?

I had mine replaced for free and I was out of warranty, but it was only because the genius that was helping me was nice.

Unfortunately, you are supposed to pay for it.

Here's what it says on the work order:

922-8383 Display Bezel $29.69
S1490LL/A HARDWARE REPAIR-LEVEL 1 $ 0.00

After I had the service done, the genius decided to waive the amount.

So hopefully.. only 30 bucks.....

Phew! I was expecting it to be closer to $100. I can live with the cracked palm rest for now, but I don't want to open my MacBook one day to find out that the display bezel popped off or something.

Thanks for your help, Surely! :)

No worries, Prof.!

Glad to help.....

Why don't you have the warrantied palmrest part replaced? Are you waiting for a specific reason?

I'm out of warranty, I don't have the money to get the palm rest replaced.

I could be wrong, but I believe that they will replace that part even if it out of warranty because it is a defective part.

I had mine replaced (it was great, they replaced the whole top piece, which includes the keyboard and trackpad), but I can't remember if I was out of warranty or not.

It's worth a call to Apple to see if it is covered. Mention that you believe it is supposed to be covered, even after the 1 year warranty period.

Oooooh I didn't know that, I hope that turns out to be the case. I'll give Apple a call later and check it out. If they do replace it for free, I might get it fixed within the next month. Or maybe after the holiday shopping...

Cool.... let me know how it goes.

Don't hold me to it though.... I'm not 100% sure..... but it's worth a try.:D
