Will Apple still replace it for free even if I'm out of warranty like they do with the palm rest (those are cracked, too) or am I going to have to pay out-of-pocket?

How much do you think it would cost to get it replaced?![]()
Phew! I was expecting it to be closer to $100. I can live with the cracked palm rest for now, but I don't want to open my MacBook one day to find out that the display bezel popped off or something. Here's what it says on the work order:
922-8383 Display Bezel $29.69
S1490LL/A HARDWARE REPAIR-LEVEL 1 $ 0.00
After I had the service done, the genius decided to waive the amount.
So hopefully.. only 30 bucks.....

I'm out of warranty, I don't have the money to get the palm rest replaced. No worries, Prof.!
Glad to help.....
Why don't you have the warrantied palmrest part replaced? Are you waiting for a specific reason?

Oooooh I didn't know that, I hope that turns out to be the case. I'll give Apple a call later and check it out. If they do replace it for free, I might get it fixed within the next month. Or maybe after the holiday shopping...I could be wrong, but I believe that they will replace that part even if it out of warranty because it is a defective part.
I had mine replaced (it was great, they replaced the whole top piece, which includes the keyboard and trackpad), but I can't remember if I was out of warranty or not.
It's worth a call to Apple to see if it is covered. Mention that you believe it is supposed to be covered, even after the 1 year warranty period.
