The quietest external

Hi everyone

I'm looking to purchase a really quiet external hard drive. Can anyone recommend one?

The reason I need it to be quiet is because I will be doing some interviews and don't want to pick up the hard rive "hum". It will be connected to my iBook.

ipods are quite good

I have an external drive that uses normal size hardrive and it is quite a buzz that emanates from it. Also you need an extra power plug as it runs off an AC adaptor which is a pain especially when your mobile carrying around a cable is bad enough!.

I think the ipod is a good solution as it is bus powered and quiet + it has dual uses. But the normal ones aren't that bad, you'd just put it under the desk for example, and they have the added bonus of when the HD dies (like mine did) you can just shove a new one in the case - it's not as easy with an iPod!

I've used both with pro-tools so they are both up to the job.

I have a Maxtor One Touch that I think is pretty quiet. Of course, I haven't used anything else - so take it for what its worth.
