i have 512 mb of ram on my ibook, which for everyday use is just fine, the problem is that when running things which use a lot of video ram my CPU heats up way too much for my liking, it gets up near 63 C with just one app open using shockwave. the thing that gets me is I still have 86 mb of free RAM and 260 mb of inactive ram. why isn't that being used up instead of the CPU, which I want to relax and not overheat. the CPU is running at about 10-20% idle.

my ibook does it as well, I think there is not much you can do about it. most likely an age issue (thermal grease will not last forever as a "perfect" thermal bridge but will break down over time esp. with heat)
That is my take on it.

ah.... i will have to do that one of these days... but is there a way to use more RAM instead of CPU cycles, or is there no way to fiddle with those settings?
